A day in Karmøy

Karmøy is a Norwegian island west of the
city of Haugesund.  The population of the island
is approximately 40,000.  This is also the island
where Kristine's family lives.  It is approximately 30
miles from top to bottom.  Today, her and her parents
gave me a tour of the island and interesting
aspects about it.
Small, local shop.

An old factory that once produced fog horns.

A hand painted mail box.

This tree has gotten too big over time for this
neighborhood so the locals have cut it back.  It will
gradually blossom once again over time.

This statue represents "good luck".  European sailors
in the 1500's placed statues of women in the front of
their sail boats.  It was bad luck to return from sea
without a statue or even if it had gotten damaged.

Sommer Gospel (Summer) is a Christian music
festival on Karmøy.  This festival is held every
year around this time and unfortunately this year
the weather wasn't suitable for a nice relaxing
outside concert.  But we stayed for awhile
anyway.

This area is near a nice view on the island.
Many young couples go here and the boy
would ask the girl to be his girlfriend.  As you
notice, one sign says "ja" which means yes,
and the other says "nei" which means no.
If the girl agrees to become the boys girlfriend,
they sit on the left bench.  The other picture clearly
shows what happens is she denies the question.

Kristine's dad Bjørn running to catch up with
us as we walked toward the Fisherman's Memorial.

A fisherman from Seattle donated money toward
a memorial in remembrance of all the brave
fishermen from this area in Norway that have
lost their lives out at sea.

Cross, yet again in remembrance of all the
brave fisherman who have lost their lives
at sea.

Kristine's cousin Daniel is a young singer/musician
with lots of talent and potential.  He also performed
at Sommer Gospel at the indoor venue.  He recorded
his first single recently.  It's on spotify: Daniel Dahl – Garden
